KOSLI GRAMMAR IN USAGE

Posted on: May 15, 2010

ALTHOUGH WE are using Odia script for writing Kosli yet the grammar of Kosli differs a lot from Odia. As per my best knowledge there is no standard form of Kosli grammar in practice. Yet I have observed some school which may loosely named as:

1 – Nilmadhab Panigrahi – Prafulla Tripathy School
2 – Hrudamani Pradhan School
3 – Balangir School
4 – Kalahandia and Others School

* No such name of grammar school in Kosli occurred. These are loosely named by me for the time being.

PANIGRAHI -TRIPATHY SCHOOL

Tripathy Babu is one of the pioneers in developing Kosli grammar and he is well-known for his SAMBALPURI – ODIA DICTIONARY and Dr. Panigrahi is also popularly known as the ‘Kosli Byasa’.

This school for the first time propound to use all DIRGHA MATRA as HRRASRA MATRA and all SA KAR as DANTYA. It considers so because generally we do not use DIRGHA MATRA in our conversations or pronunciations. This school also propagates not to use HALANT.

HRUDAMANI PRADHAN SCHOOL

I have very little knowledge about this school. Hrudamani Pradhan is also known for his discovery of few new Kosli script (few barnas) which he added to the existing Odia script which is use for Kosli. This school modified the earlier Panigrahi –Tripathy School in some uses and added HALANT to it.

Noted novelist Shri Dhanpati Mahapatra is an exponent of this school.

BALANGIR SCHOOL

The rules of this school was resolute by Balangir Lekhak Parishad. The grammar format of Balangir School can be traced from the writings of Shri Nimain Charan Panigrahi and Dr. Satosh Rath etc.

Generally this school also obeys the DANTYA SA rule and the extra features which differentiate it from others are:

a ) No use of JUKTAKSHYAR to lessen the consonant cluster.
b ) No use of AII and OU

KALAHANDIA AND OTHER SCHOOL

There are few more grammar practices are observed in Kosli amongst which the Kalahandi region’s grammar and Sonepur region’s are notable.
In these regions’ authors generally write as according to their pronunciation.

Languages blurs dissolves and evolves. A language varies from village to village, cast to cast. Yet all the languages written and spoken from NUAPADA to DEOGARH and SUNDARGARH to KALAHANDI via SONEPUR, BOUD are KOSLI

Excellent.

Even some one come out to explain and through some light on kosli grammar. Thanks Mr.Saket.

The schools mentioned above though not occured as said in the article , I believe the personalities individually themselves are more than any school , so far kosli language is concern.

I think now the time has come to be united to explore kosli language , not only in the state, country
